LOIS EARLS Dies Saturday -- Services for LOIS CHEW EARLS, 76, of Route 1, Cayuga, were held at 10:30 a.m. today at The Malcolm DeVerter Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Adams officiating. Mrs. Earls died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday at the Urbana Health Center in Urbana, IL. She had been a resident there since July 23 and was ill for six months. She was born on January 7, 1903, in the house where she lived all her life, and she was the daughter of Rees L. and Mary Lindsey Chew. Mrs. Earls owned and managed farms in the Cayuga area and was preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt T. Earls, in June of 1972. She is survived by one brother, Raymond Chew of Route 1, Cayuga; 2 sisters, Mrs. Esther C. Downs of Georgetown, IL, and Helen G. Schwab of Urbana; 2 nieces, Marjorie C. McCoun and Helen Kays, both of Indianapolis; and one nephew, Donald Chew of Cayuga.
Mrs. Alma Eaton, who died at Terre Haute Wednesday morning was brought to the home of her daughter, Minnie Myers. The funeral services were held at Bono Church Friday, with burial in the Bono cemetery.
W.F. EATON, Well Known Dana Man, is Dead
W.F. (WEB) EATON, age 60, widely known in the county as a dealer in tombstones and a high class, congenial citizen, died at his home in Dana early yesterday morning, of an attack of double pneumonia. Mr. Eaton was a large man and had a wide circle of warm friends. Until recently he was on the Dana town board.
Mr. Eaton's widow, who is ill, his sons, Walter, of Fairview Park, and Otto, of Terre Haute, and a daughter, Mrs. James Myers, of near Toronto, survive. The funeral will be held at Dana at 10 o'clock, tomorrow.
Rev. Victor Koontz officiated at last rites for Mrs. NEMA EDWARDS, 84, of 134 North Fifth Street, who died Friday. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Frist Funeral Home and burial was in the Roselawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by two sons, three grandchildren, two brothers, and a sister.
CLARENCE ELDER, 92, resident of the Tumalo area for over 60years, died Saturday at St. Charles Medical Center. A graveside servicewill be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pilot Butte Cemetery. Mr. Elder was born to George and Martha Temple Elder on April 22, 1885, in Dana, IN, and homesteaded in Crescent in 1914. In 1914 he also moved to a ranch in Tumalo where he and his family raised turkeys and chickens for many years. He had been a member of the Farm Bureau. He married Bernice Hickox in Bend on October 15, 1942, who preceded him in death on May 30, 1961. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters; Sue Beard, Helen Elder, and Bernice Elder; and a brother, James A. Survivors include 3 sisters; Marguerite Elder and Mary Umbarger, both of Bend, and Lucille Pawley of Brazil, IN; and a brother, Joe, of Bend.
Niswonger-Reynolds is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. MARTHA ELDER, who was 100 years old last October, died this morning at 1:45 a.m. at the Ideal Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mrs. Elder, formerly Martha Wood Temple, was born October 16, 1864, in Toronto, now Dana, IN. She was married in Dana September 27, 1882, to George Elder. They came to Central Oregon in 1920 and established a ranch spread half way between Bend and Redmond.
On her 100th birthday, Mrs. Elder received numerous congratulatory messages, including one from President Lyndon B. Johnson and one from Governor Mark Hatfield.
Her husband died in 1929. She is survived by 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Her sons and daughters are Mrs. Mary Umbarger, Clarence Elder, James A. Elder and Miss Marguerite Elder, all of Bend; Mrs. Lucille Pawley of Dana, IN; and Joe Elder, formerly of Bend, but now of Madras.
The Rev. James P. McGugin of First Presbyterian Church will officiate at the funeral services. Burial will be in Pilot Butte Cemetery.
Clinton, IN -- MARSHALL ENNIS, aged 11, died Sunday from the effects of an attack of diptheria.
Charles Tillman EPHLIN of Cayuga, age 82, formerly of Marshall passed away at the Vermillion County Nursing Home, Thursday morning, Dec 1. Survivors are 3 sons: John of Cayuga; Lloyd of El Paso, Tx; and Robert of LaPorte; a sister, Mrs. Eva Davidson of Frankfort and 7 grandchildren. The body was taken to the Davies Funeral Home in Marshall where services were held a t 2:00 Sunday in charge of Rev. Edward Woodard of Bloomingdale. Burial in Bethany Cem, east of Marshall.
