Mrs. Ola Abner, 79, of Route Rosedale, died at 10:28 p.m. Friday at a Terre Haute Nursing home after an extended illness. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at First Funeral Home with rev. Morris Officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery. A lifetime resident Mrs.Abner was born March 29, 1879 in Libertyville, Ind. to Carey and Charlotte Dean Hayes. He husband Raymond Abner, died in 1962. She is survived by a brother, Benton Hayes of Montezuma, and a sister, Ida Kozelinsky of Akron, Ohio. Also several nieces and nephews.
CLINTON, IND., -- Raymond Abner, 66, Lyford, was pronounced dead at Vermillion County Hospital following an apparent heart attack suffered at the residence Saturday afternoon. A lifelong resident of Parke County, he was a retired coal miner and in recent years was employed as a truck driver for Sodalicious Drinks, Inc. at Terre Haute. He was also a veteran of World War I. Surviving are the wife, Ola, and three sisters (Mrs.) Oma Jackson, Michigan City; Mrs. Blanche Hood, Mecca; and Mrs. Gladys Hardman, Lyford. The body is at the First Funeral home.
CLINTON -- Myrtle L. Adamovich, 76, of Clinton died at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Vermillion Convalescent Center. She was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Clinton to Daniel Eugene Duell and Anna Marie Roberts Duell. Her husband, George Adamovich, died Dec. 10, 1993. Survivors include one daughter, Vikke Adamovich-Dugger; one son, George W. Adamovich; two brothers, Eugene Duell and Marion Duell; two granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Karanovich Chapel, with the Rev. Diana McCracken officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until services Tuesday.
SAMUEL ADAMS, an employee of the Vandalia Coal Co., at Jessup, met with a horrible death at the mine one day last week. He was pushing a car of props to the cage to be taken into the mine. He was pushing with his back and not paying any attention to the car, which took the wrong track and was pushed down into the mine. In an effort to save the car from falling down into the mine, Adams was pulled down into the mines, some 125 feet. He was instantly killed.
WILLIAM ADAMS died of typhoid fever at the residence of WILLIAM HAGENBAUGH, last Tuesday evening. His remains were interred in the cemetery at this place Wednesday afternoon.
After an illness of nearly a month's duration Mrs. Adeline Jenks Aikman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ashburn W. Truitt in Dana, Monday evening, February 19, 1917. She had been a sufferer from rheumatism for years and during the last two years of her life she was almost helpless.
The deceased was one of the pioneer women of Helt township. She was about 15 years old when her father, Tilly Jenks moved from Bono, Washington county, this state, in 1848 and settled on the Jenks farm north of Bono, Helt township. Others from Washington county joined the Jenks family and they called the new settlement Bono. Stephen Jenks, now 87 years old, is the only member of the family surviving.
Adeline Jenks was born November 28, 1833. She was
married in 1856 to
John B. Aikman and to this union five children were born. The oldest, a
daughter, died at the age of six years in Montezuma. The family lived
in Indianapolis a few years and then moved to Dana, where the husband
died in 1878. Edgar P., Harry E. and Mrs. Clare Jordan are also
deceased children.
She united with the Methodist church when 15 years old
and was a
devoted Bible reader and christian,
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church
Wednesday
morning by Rev. Chivington. Burial followed at the Bono cemetery.
Mrs. Dora Alice Aikman, who resided about 2 1/2 miles northeast of Dana, died August 17, 1905, aged nearly 33 years. She was born in Helt township near Bono, September 3rd, 1872. She was the daughter of Wm. and Martha Malone, and was united in wedlock to Wm. Aikman in 1889. She is survived by her husband, and two children. Also her father, five brothers and one sister. Her remains were buried in Bono cemetery, August 19.
OLAN E. AIKMAN, County Native, Dies Saturday
OLAN EVERETT AIKMAN, 56, native of Vermillion County, died at his home
in Montezuma, Saturday.
Born in Bono, May 7, 1895, Aikman was the son of Charles and Frona Sheely Aikman. He was formerly station agent and telegrapher with the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Association of Railroad Telegraphers.
Survivors include the widow, Lula; 3 brothers, Forrest of Dana; Pearl of Kingman; and Orville of Clinton.
Funeral services were held today at the Brown Funeral
Home in Montezuma with Rev. Glen Clark officiating. Interment was made
in Bono Cemetery.
Mrs. WARREN ALDEN, daughter of Aaron Martin, died Saturday of cancer. Her funeral was held Monday.
James F. Aldrich was born July 29th, 1829 in Decatur County Indiana and was married to Cynthia A Gilliland in 1852. To them eleven children were born, eight of whom are now living. He dies June 8th, 1903 at the home of his son, Lum Aldridge, north of town. Short funeral services wee held at the residence Tuesday at 2 o'clock p.m., after which the remains were laid away in the Wesley chapel cemetery.
NEWPORT --Elsie Ann Allen, 52, of Newport died at 9:04 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born March 26, 1948, in Marshall, Ind., to Roscoe Sowers and Martha Jane Pearman Sowers. Survivors include two sons, Theodore Simonton Jr., and Charles Simonton; one daughter, Rebecca Hall; her mother; two brothers, Clifford D. Sowers and Dennis L. Sowers; and seven grandchildren. Graveside services are 11 a.m. today in Thomas Cemetery, with the Rev. Travis Girdler officiating. DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Perrysville, Ind -- Lowell Forrest Allen, 50, of Perrysville died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday June 6, 1967 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville where he had been a patient for 3 hours. Mr. Allen was born July 25, 1916 in Fulton Twp, Fountain Co, the son of David and Adah (Ida) Wallace Allen. He was married to Catherine Mettee on Dec 7, 1936 who survives. He was employed at the REMC Radio Materials plant at Attica the past 10 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge at Attica. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Judith Schultz of Danville, Ill. and Mrs. Carolyn Saltsgaver of Perrysville; a son, Robert F. of Waynetown; five sisters, Mrs. Gay Crowder of Perrysville; Mrs. Marjorie Royer of Danville; Mrs. Avanelle Shoaf of Kingman; Mrs. Wilma Dunn of St. Petersburg, Fla; and Mrs. Freda Holycross of Danville Rt 5; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers. Services will be Thursday at 2 at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Don H. Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. He was preceded in death by five brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday of the BOdine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. The Rev. Funeral services for Herman "Pete" Allen, 72, Perrysville resident, who died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday June 28 at his home, were held Saturday afternoon at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Mr. Allen, who was born November 1, 1889 in cates, the son of Thomas and Melissa Jane Newnum Allen, had been in ill health for the past year and a half. He was seriously ill one month. Mr. Allen was a life resident of Fountain and Vermillion counties and had never married. In WWII he served as a private with the 29th Division of the US infantry from March 28, 1919 until June 3, 1919. He was a farmer and carpenter. Mr. Allen was a member of Walter Hoyt Post 350 American Legion of Perrsyville and Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Covington. He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Opha Cates, Everett (Bob Allen) and Mrs. Minnie Perry all of Kingman Rt 1, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. The Rev. Burnley Spencer officiated at his final rites and burial was in Cooper Chapel Cemetery southeast of Covington. Military services were conducted at the graveside by the Walter Hoyt Post 350 and Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395. Pallbearers were: Clarence Wilson, Russell Wilson, Herschel Allen, Hardy Allen, Leon Perry and Ralph Perry.
Will Mack Allen, age 89, a native of Millcreek Twp, Fountain Co died at 3 a.m. Friday, July 29 in the Vermillion County Hospital at Clinton where he had been a patient two weeks. Mr. Allen was born Aug 22, 1877 in Millcreek Twp, the son of George & Rose McKee Allen. He was a member of the Cates EUB Church and was a life resident of Fountain County. A retired farmer, he spent most of his life in Millcreek, Fulton and Wabash townships. He had made his home at the Laymon Nursing Home in Clinton for the past 2 years. Funeral services were held 4 pm. Sunday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Burial in Cooper Chapel Church Cemetery.
Cates, Ind -- Will Mack Allen, 89, died at 3 a.m. today (July 29, 1966) in Vermillion County Hospital, Clinton where he had been a patient two weeks. Born Aug 22, 1877 in Mill Creek Twp Mr. Allen made his home at the Laymon Nursing Home in Clinton the past two years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Goerge and Rose McKee Allen a daughter and sister. He was married to Lillie G. Orahood Feb 12, 1902 who also preceded him in death on June 19, 1929. Survivors include a brother Homer Allen of Punta Gorda Fla and a asister Mrs. Margaret Rennick of Covington. Mr. Allen was a member of the Cates EUB Church and a life resident of Fountain County. A retired farmer he spent most of his life in MillCreek, Fulton & Wabash Twp. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with burial in Coopers Cem. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday.
Clinton - JAMES AMERMAN, 77, Route 3, died at 1 p.m. Monday in Vermillion County Hospital. He was a retired brakeman for Milwaukee Railroad Co. He was born August 3, 1907, in Indiana to George and Lenna Amerman. Survivors include his wife, Frances L.; 4 sons, James E. and Franklin R., both of Clinton; Leland M. of Danville, IN, and Michael L. of Indianapolis; 2 daughters, Virginia Smith of Avon, and Patricia Beai, of Marion, IL; 2 brothers, David and Paul, both of Clinton; 2 sisters, Edna Shew of Clinton, and Marie Alkire, of Lawrenceburg, KY; 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Bernice Nazarene Church. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in Frist Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Stover officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
CLINTON - Lucy E. Amerman, 58, of Clinton passed away at 9:22 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born June 24, 1949, in Tangier, to Floyd English and Margaret Perron English. She was a licensed practical nurse and had worked at Heritage House of Clinton since its opening.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Amerman; a son, James E. Simpson of Kokomo; daughters, April Jo Simpson and Renne Lynn Simpson, both of Clinton; two stepchildren, Traci Christensen and Todd Amerman, both of Clinton; four grandchildren, Ashdon Daniel Frazier, Jacob William Patrick, Adam Tyler Richmond, Jalin Taelor Gifford; two sisters, Evelyn Calease and husband Roger of Clinton, and Judy Wilcock of South Carolina; two brothers, Floyd English Jr. and John English, both of Marshall, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mary Jo English.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., with the Rev. Larry Snyder officiating. Burial is in West Union Cemetery, northeast of Montezuma in Parke County. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
CLINTON - Margaret A. Amerman, 81, of Clinton died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 1996, in Vermillion County Hospital's emergency room. She was born June 11, 1914, in Hillsdale to Ruie Pearman and Iva Boren Pearman. Survivors include two sons, Larry Joe Amerman and Bob Amerman; two daughters, Sharon Jones and Marilyn Kelley; one brother, Bob Pearman; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. today in Frist Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Harrison officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services.
Mrs. ANNA AMMERMAN Dies at Daughter's Home Near
Rockville
Mrs. ANNA M. AMMERMAN, 83 years old, widow of Peter Ammerman, died at
7:30 a.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Ferris, 3
miles west of Rockville. A few months ago Mrs. Ammerman was stricken
with paralysis and had been ill since that time. She was also afflicted
with heart trouble. Her husband died about 20 years ago while living at
St. Bernice. The funeral is to be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock
at the Methodist Church in Dana. Burial will be in Bono Cemetery. Two
daughters, Mrs. William Ferris and Mrs. Nellie Ott, both of Parke
County, survive. A son, Leslie Ammerman, who died 6 years ago was
formerly a resident of Clinton.
PERRYSVILLE, Ind. — Fred (Oral) Alderson, 82, of Perrysville Route 1, died unexpectedly at his home yesterday morning (Sept. 3, 1968). Vermillion County Coroner Nick Karanovich is investigating to determine the exact cause of death. Born Oct. 29, 1886, in Perrysville, he was a son of Richard and Ellen Hughes Alderson. He was a life resident of the Perrysville area. Mr. Alderson was a farmer. He was a member of Lowes Chapel Church of Christ. Survivors include his widow, Trula Hewitt Alderson, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Phillips, Danville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Barrick & Son Funeral Home in Danville with Robert Benjamin of the Pleasant Mound Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Mound Cemetery near Georgetown. Friends will be received at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
Clinton, Ind. (CNS) -- Miss Mary Antonini, 57, owner and operator of Antonini's Liquor Store, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday [Nov. 3, 1966] after a long illness. She was a life resident of Clinton, born Feb. 10, 1909, daughter of Joseph and Victoria Dal Sasso Antonini. She is survived by a sister, Yolanda, of Clinton, and two brothers, Fred, of Brandenburg, Ky., and Arveno, of Fox Lake, Ill. Services are pending at the Frist Funeral Home.
Demise of an Old Citizen
The Last Survivor of the Pioneer Settlers of Eugene Passed Away
ALEXANDER ARRASMITH, who resided 2 1/2 miles south of Eugene, died on
Wednesday of last week, at the advanced age of 79 years. Mr. ARRASMITH
was born in Kentucky, and emigrated to Sullivan County, this State, in
1818, where he resided until 1824, when he removed to this county, and
was one among the early settlers of Eugene township. Mr. ARRASMITH has
been a member of the M.E. Church for the last 40 years. He was a good
citizen and was the last survivor of the old pioneer settlers of that
township. His wife, who is still living, is 80 years old and is in fair
health.
HENRY AXTON, of this township, who has been an invalid
for many years, died of consumption on Friday last, aged about 37
years.
