WILLIAM B. WALTHALL was born in Dinwiddie Co., VA, on January 25th, 1818.  His parents, WILLIAM B. and MARTHA (BAILEY) WALTHALL were natives of Virginia, but of English descent.  In 1830 his parents, being Quakers (Friends) and opposed to slavery, moved to the free state of Ohio.  They located in Clinton County, where the mother of the deceased had relatives.  In 1842, when the deceased had attained the age of 24 years, he left the parental roof to find a home in the then far west.  After traveling on horseback for 8 days, he reached Vermillion County, settling on the farm where he has continued to reside up to the day of his death.  On March 9th, 1842, he was united in wedlock, before a monthly meeting of the Society of Friends, to SARAH HAWORTH, who died April 28, 1854.  In the autumn of 1855, he was united in marriage to LYDIA J. BRANSON, who died less than a year ago.

[He resided about 7 miles west of Newport, near Quaker Point, and died December 22, 1890.]
