Lambert was born January 26, 1831 in Indiana to Elijah and Mary Malona Taylor. He married Lucinda Stump December 3, 1867 in Vermillion County, Indiana. They were the parents of three children, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Bales, Maria Taylor Pyle and John Taylor. He was the grandfather of Samuel Edwin Taylor and Ernest Taylor Pyle. He owned "The Mound", and had his daughter, Maria, and her family move in with him after Ernie's birth. They all lived there until their deaths. He was a farmer for most of his life. He died February 15, 1911 in Indiana, and is buried in Helt's Prairie Cemetery. At the time of his death, he had over $2,500 to leave to his heirs.
