Elijah Taylor was born May 20, 1794 in Delaware to William and Mary Evans Taylor. He was one of eight children, with his siblings being Mary, Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah, John, Joshua and William S. He married Mary Malona. They were the parents of Alfred, Charles M., Samuel, Sarah, Hannah, Maria, Lambert, John, James Wise, Nancy Ann and Mary Maloney. After her death, he married Ann T. Freeman. His first wife, Mary, is buried in Higbie Cemetery. His second wife, Ann, is buried in Eaton, Ohio. He was an early settler of Vermillion County, but 1856 moved to Ohio, and lived there for about 20 years. He moved back to Vermillion County around 1876. He died September 7, 1877 in Vermillion County. At the time of his death, he had over $2,500 to leave to his heirs. He is buried in Helt's Prairie Cemetery.
