Born in Brown Co., Ohio, 7 Mar 1819, came with his father 1833 to Vermillion Co., while there were still many Indians here. Accumulated considerable property and was stock trader. Married first MissAbigail Smith, had one son James who accidentally drowned in the Middle Fork Creek when a small boy. Second wife Miss Priscilla Sailor and had eight chidren.
At 56 he does not appear over 40, few grey hairs and likely the youngest appearing man of his age in the county. A trait also held by his father, Henry Oakwood, in East Tenn. and Miss Margaret Remley of Pa. Moved to Ly. via flat boat. (Remley Family)
