Elizabeth (Jackson) Houchin

was born in Ohio on August 2, 1826 to John and Lydia Short Jackson.  She married Jesse Houchin April 9, 1846 in Ohio.  In 1851 they moved to Helt Township where the remaining 5 of their 8 children were born.  They were the parents of Martha S., John S., Mary M., Jessie E., Alice C., Daniel V., William E. and Lawrence B.  She was a devout Christian , but changed her membership to the Missionary Baptist Church at Tennessee Valley in 1875.  She died January 20, 1908 at the home of her son, John S. Houchin, in Montezuma, Indiana, as a result of heart disease and other complications.  She is buried in Pisgah Cemetery.
