I just found this page on Bob Bales through the United States Air Force Art Collection. He was one of Aunt Mary's two step-sons. He was born in Dana, and the last time I spoke to him was living in Birmingham, Alabama. It's been a few years, so I'm not sure if he is still alive. A couple of years ago, he wrote the book Ernie Pyle a Hoosier Childhood, and did an excellent job on it. I remember he corresponded a good bit with my grandparents (Sam and Ilo Taylor), in getting a lot of his facts back in the late 70's early 80's. So he put several years of research in it. He was also the President of Pepperdine University for a while and was an artist for Walt Disney for 10 years. So Dana has another proud son, that not many know about. Dana should have Bob Bales day for him!

There is much more about George C. Bales on the US Air Force web site.
