An excerpt from the January 1, 1846, edition of the Journal and Free Press
Lafayette, Indiana

WHIG COUNTY CONVENTION
"...the Whigs of Tippecanoe county met in council at Lafayette, on the first of January, 1846,
for the purpose of appointing Delegates to the State Convention, to be held in Indianapolis,
on the 9th instant...On mothion of J. B. SEAMANS, JOHN W. ODELL, Esq. was called
to the Chair and SAMUEL HOOVER, Esq. appointed Secretary.

On motion of MR. GREGORY, a Committe of five were appointed by the Chairman to report
Resolutions to the Convention, to wit: BAKER GUEST, J.B. SEAMANS, W.P. REYNOLDS,
WM. HAWKINS, and R. C. GREGORY.

On motion of Doct. A. Taylor, a Committe was appointed to report a list of Delegates to the
State Convention, which committee consisted of the following persons:


The Committe to name Delegates to the State Convention made the
following Report which was approved by the Convention:

From Fairfield Township:


Wabash Township:


Tippecanoe Township:


Shelby Township:


Wayne Township:


Randolph Township:


Jackson Township:


Lauramie Township:


Sheffield Township:


Perry Township:


Washington Township:


On motion, said delegates have power to fill all vacancies that may be necessary.

On motion, a Central Committe of ten for Tippecanoe County, was appointed by
the Chair, to wit: O. L CLARK, Chairman; Baker GUEST, Philip McCORMICK,
Philip FORESMAN, Wm. F. REYNOLDS, Samuel HOOVER, R. C. GREGORY,
Samuel A. HUFF, Israel SPENCER and John ROBERTS."
