John
Pavy (sometimes spelled Pavey or Peavy) was a Baptist minister who
lived in Kentucky in the
early 1800's. He was considered controversial due to his Abolitionist
beliefs. He left Gallatin Co., Ky. in 1823 and moved across the Ohio
River to
Switzerland Co., IN to avoid the turmoil that his preaching against
slavery
caused among the church members who were slave owners. He later moved
to Decatur Co., IN
where he preached at Sandcreek Baptist Church, Adams Baptist Church,
Liberty Baptist Church,
and the Salem (Burney) Baptist Church, all in Decatur Co., IN. Ref:
