William Hall Lindley was born on July 27, 1852, in Vevay, Indiana. His father, Ira, was 32 and his mother, Euphemia, was 27. He married Susie Blanton Moore on December 7, 1876, in Indiana. They began their married life in Vevay, Indiana. Sometime after 1880 they joined a wagon train west and attempted to settle in Pueblo, Colorado. They were forced to leave Pueblo due to Indian hostilities and joined another wagon train traveling east across southern Colorado. In Boston, Baca County, Colorado, Susie gave birth to a daughter Gertrude on Feb. 27th 1889. From there they traveled with six other wagons through Kansas. Gertrude died on June 30th 1889 and was buried along the trail in Kansas. The Lindleys continued onward to take part in the 1889 Oklahoma Territory Land Run. William later returned to retrive Gertrude and she was reburied in the El Reno Cemetery, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. They had three children during their marriage: Gertrude Lindley, Allie Moore Lindley, and Clara Helen Lindley. Wiliam was killed in a flash flood after a cyclone passed through Anadarko. He went out to check on his crops with his hired hand. He was riding on horseback over a bridge when the flash flood took out the bridge, crushing him. He died on May 23, 1908, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, at the age of 55, and was buried in El Reno, Oklahoma.
