Mary M.
Zubler, 53, passed away peacefully at 1:01 p.m. on
Friday, Nov. 30, in the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, after
a courageous 15-month-long battle with cancer. All of us
who knew Mary, knew that she lived her entire life the
same way she fought this lengthy illness, courageously
and positive.
She was
born on Dec. 1, 1947, in Frankfort, Mich., and was the youngest of 12 siblings.
She is survived by husband, Michael Zubler of Houston;
brother, Laverne Scott of Thomsonville, Mich.; sisters,
Ethel Lawrence of Elkhart, Ind., and Ardith Hazel of
Traverse City, Mich.; stepson, Aaron Zubler of
Bloomington, Ind.; and by other loving relatives and
friends.
Mary has
been employed as a nurse at MD Anderson from 1994 until
she was diagnosed with cancer in August 2000, and
received recognition as employee of the month in August
1995.
She
earned her LVN degree from Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, Mich., and her associate's degree of nursing
from Houston Baptist University in 1998, where she was named a member of
Alpha Chi, scholastic honor society.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 4, in the chapel of Memorial
Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Kathy Freeway, where a vigil
service will be held beginning at 7 p.m., with
Deacon Al Vacek officiating. A funeral Mass will be
celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in St. John Vianney
Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, with Rev. Niall Nolan as
celebrant. Rite of Committal services will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
