SOUTH BEND - Thaddeus "Ted" V. Zmudzinski, 92, passed
away at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2010, in Memorial
Hospital. Ted was born on February 14, 1917, in South Bend, to
the late Anthony and Catherine (Sobieraj) Zmudzinski. Ted was
also preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lucille B
(Szymanski); brothers, Chester and Walter; and sisters, Josephine
Pikarski, Clara Gapinski and Sr. Mary Archangela. Ted is survived
by his sons, Tom (Marilyn) Zmudzinski of Harrietta, MI, and Tim
Zmudzinski of South Bend; and granddaughter, Rachael Niven of Los
Angeles. Ted will be especially missed by his companion of 20+
years, Mrs. Rita Kania of Crumstown, IN. Ted honorably served his
country with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, then
retired from the Fire Department after 21 years of service, and
then was a maintenance supervisor of the Notre Dame athletic
department until 1982. Ted was with the Achievement Forum, was an
accomplished carpenter, loved fishing, Notre Dame football, and
was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Funeral Home Board of
Directors. Ted was a parishioner at St. Casimir Catholic Church
where he belonged to the Holy Name Society. Visitation will be
from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, February 10, 2010, in ST.
JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will
be prayed at 4:45 p.m. Visitation will also be from 8:00 a.m. to
9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010, in the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on
Thursday, February 11, 2010, in St. Casimir Catholic Church.
Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum at St. Joseph
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir
Catholic Church. For those who are unable to attend the funeral
Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
