SOUTH BEND - Paulette Fay Zimmer, 66, residing in South
Bend, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, in her
home. She was born February 21, 1942, in South Bend, as the
daughter of Paul and Victoria (Switzer) McKee, and
remained a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of James
Whitcomb Riley High School and the Memorial Hospital School of
Nursing. She received her BS from Indiana University.
On November 10, 1962, in Grace United
Methodist Church, South Bend, she was united in marriage to
Eugene I. "Nick" Zimmer. Her loving husband, Eugene of
45 years, survives her. Also surviving are her two daughters,
Mary (Rev. Paul) Thompson of Mount Prospect, IL, and
Kristin (Eric) Paulsen of Arlington Heights, IL; and her
son, Timothy Eugene (Jennifer) Zimmer of Brownsburg, IN. Seven
grandchildren, Katherine, Victoria and Bradley Thompson, Joshua
and Allison Paulsen, and twins, Colin and Ian Zimmer, survive her
as well. In addition, Paulette is survived by two brothers,
Rodger (Sandy) McKee and Richard (Gail) McKee; a sister-in-law,
Mary Anne (Thomas) Steele; and a brother-in-law, William
Zimmer, all residing in South Bend. After getting married,
Paulette worked for four years for Dr. Hansel O. Foley, MD, in
South Bend. However, upon the arrival of her children, she
decided to become a full-time mom. As her children entered
school, Paulette became very involved with the schools, serving
on the PTAs of Hay Elementary, Jackson Middle and Riley High
Schools, as home room mom for many classes, and as a volunteer in
the counseling office of Riley High School. As her children left
home for college, she went back to work as a part-time nurse at
St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka. Until recent years, she was an
active golfer at the Morris Park Country Club. She was also very
involved in the Memorial Hospital Alumni Association, and was
currently serving on the Hospital Auxiliary Board. Paulette,
along with her husband, have been active members at Community
Baptist Church since 1972, where Paulette enjoyed serving as an
AWANA leader for 30 years. She also served many years as her
Sunday school class secretary. Paulette was a longtime member of
the Miami Trails Homemakers Club, the Questers Antique Club, and
the local chapter of the Bosom Buddies organization.
A time of visitation with family and friends
will be held today, June 22, from 1:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Palmer
Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South
Bend. Private committal services will take place at 11:00 a.m.
Monday at Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, IN. Memorial services
celebrating the life of Paulette Zimmer will follow at 1:00 p.m.
Monday, June 23rd, in Community Baptist Church, 5715 Miami
Street, South Bend. Dr. Bud Steadman, pastor, will officiate.
