Harold W. Zimmerman

Harold W. ''Zimmy'' Zimmerman, 95,
of 69120 Sunset Blvd., Union, Mich., died at 5:30 a.m. on
Saturday, March 27, in Three Rivers Area Hospital, Three Rivers, Mich.
Harold was born on July 29, 1903,
in South Bend, Ind., to Matilda (Becker) and Charles F.
Zimmerman.
He is survived by a companion,
Helen P. Brandon of Union, Mich.; a son, Jack R. Zimmerman of
South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Dr. Harry (Jean Warner) Magrane
of Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Lewis (Joan) Smith of St. Joseph,
Mich.; 24 grandchildren; and by 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, Charles and a sister, Mildred.
In 1941, he purchased Percy's
Tavern, which became Zimmy's Tavern in 1946. Mr. Zimmerman owned
and operated the tavern for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He built
Zimmy's across the street from the old location adjacent to
Little Baldwin Lake, in Union. The area has its own identity as
Zimmyville. Zimmy was also an independent real estate agent.
Harold was a founder and life
member of the Cass County, Conservation Club. He was also a
member of Vandalia Lodge #290, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite
Valley of South Bend, Mizpah Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Fort Wayne,
Ind., Loyal Order of Moose #599 in Elkhart, Ind., Cass County
Shrine Club Lifetime member, life member BPO Elks Club #1248 in
Three Rivers, Mich., Order of Eastern Star Vandalia Chapter 235
Life Member, State of Michigan Polka Music Hall of Fame, and
World Concertina Congress Hall of Fame.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on
Tuesday in Bristol Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Bristol,
Ind., where the Vandalia Lodge #290 will conduct funeral
services. Burial will be in Plum Grove Cemetery, Union, Mich.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home, and one hour prior to services.

County Conservation Club or Vandalia Lodge #290.
