NEW CARISLE - J. Robert "Bob" Zigler, 83, of New
Carlisle, IN, passed away at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008,
in Hamilton Communities. Bob was born on January 20, 1925, in New
Carlisle, to Clare and Verna (Wykoff) Zigler. He retired
from the I.B.E.W. #153, where he was employed as an electrician
for 38 years.
On June 17, 1956, in the New Carlisle
Community Church, he married, Donna R. Turley, who
survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kim S. (Curt) Swank
of LaPorte, IN and Wendy L. (George) Arndt of New
Carlisle, IN; two sons, Robert Craig (Alisa) Zigler of Jackson,
MI and Gregg T. Zigler of San Jose, CA; nine grandchildren,
Jennifer, Joshua, and Johannah Swank; Alivia, Benjamin, and Cloe
Zigler; and Josiah, Gabrielle, and Micaiah Arndt; and by many
nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents;
three sisters, May Alice Suttor, Doris Ellis, and
Gene Zigler; and two brothers, Joseph and George Zigler.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m.,
EDT, Monday, June 2, 2008, in the New Carlisle Methodist Church.
Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery, where members of the
American Legion Post #297 will conduct military services. Friends
may call from 2 until 6 p.m., EDT Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral
Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN, and for one hour
prior to services on Monday in the Church. Bob was a WW II
Veteran serving in the Construction Battalion, Fighting Seabees,
stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of the American
Legion Post #297. Bob was a stock car drive in the 1940's,
1950's, 1960's, and was inducted into the South Bend Motor
Speedway Hall of Fame. He was a Trombonist and played with other
well-known musicians, including Rosemary Clooney. Bob was an avid
golfer.
