NORTH LIBERTY - Ralph S. Zent, 84, of North Liberty passed away
at 7:50 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2010, in his daughter's home. He
was born on May 19, 1925, in Mishawaka, to Alfred and Wilmetta
Zent. On January 4, 1945, he married Betty Jean (Hostetler) Zent,
who preceded him in death on June 24, 2007. Mr. Zent is survived
by two daughters, Christy Hummer of North Liberty and Vickie
Lason of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, David Janssen, Erich
Janssen, Missy Kantorowski, Miryan Zent, Brittany Zent and
Rachael (Jayson) Kincaid; 19 great-grandchildren, Casey, Cassy,
Christian, Tab, Codey, Destiny, Dawson, Jade, Phillip, Trinity
Aaliyah, Zach, Morgan, Ryan, Brayden, Scott, Matt, Asiah and
Anaya; five great-great-grandchildren, Ariana, Cressyn, Alijah,
Avery and Jaydee. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara (John)
Elkins of North Liberty, and a brother, Bill Zent of Nappanee.
Three grandsons, Steven, Jeffery and Mark, and a sister, Jane
Gordon, preceded him in death. Mr. Zent was a lifelong area
resident. He graduated from North Liberty High School. Mr. Zent
served 18 years as the police chief for the town of North
Liberty. He also worked security at Potato Creek State Park. Mr.
Zent loved to target practice and was a member of the Masonic
Lodge in North Liberty. There will be no services. Burial will
take place at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit
with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, in the
Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville.
