MISHAWAKA - Helen A. Zelmer, 78, of Tanglewood Trace, Mishawaka,
passed away at 7:21 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South
Bend. She was born in Mishawaka on October 6, 1931, to Edwin and
Florence (Tully) Caskey, who both preceded her in death. As Helen
A. Caskey, she married Ervin E. Zelmer in Mishawaka. He died
November 22, 2006. She is survived by her children, Ellen J.
(James) Santa of South Bend, Maribeth (Dr. David) Speerbrecker of
Homewood, Illinois, and E. Daniel (Pattie) Zelmer of Granger.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nathan Speerbrecker, Adam
Speerbrecker, Peter Speerbrecker, Ben Zelmer and Conner Zelmer;
three great-grandchildren, Cayden, Kaylee and Owen; a sister,
Patricia Mechling of Mishawaka; a sister-in-law, Virginia Caskey,
and brother-in-law, Charles Amos. She was preceded in death by
three brothers, Richard D. Caskey, Edwyn Caskey and William
"Bill" Caskey, and by a sister, Jean Caskey. Helen
worked for many years at Robertson's Dept. Store in South Bend,
serving as a credit manager, and then worked until her retirement
at the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union. She was a graduate of
Mishawaka High School in 1949, and was a member of St. Paul
Lutheran Church, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at
11:30 a.m. Monday, May 10, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 51490
Laurel Road, South Bend, where friends will be received from 10
a.m. until the time of the services. Entombment will follow at
St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Officiating will be
Pastor Gregory Fiechtner and Dr. David Speerbrecker. The family
wishes that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran
Church or to Resurrection Lutheran Academy. Bubb Funeral Chapel
is handling arrangements.
