SOUTH BEND - Matthew A. ''Dutch'' Zangerle, 86, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly Fernway Avenue, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Medical Center of natural causes. Mr. Zangerle retired in 1973 from AM General Corp. after five years of service and was employed by Studebaker Corp. for 36 years. He was born March 5, 1908, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On May 29, 1941, in South Bend, he married Anna Sperlinski. She died Aug. 17, 1994. He is survived by two sons, Paul M. of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Michael J. of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren. He was a member of Eagles Lodge 2083, St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church and the Usher Club since 1950.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Cremation will take place, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
