SOUTH BEND - Florentine S. Zalai, 95, of South Bend,
passed away Monday, Sept. 22nd, in the Healthwin Specialized Care
Facility. She was born on July 8, 1913, in South Bend, to the
late Bertha (Ganser) and Benedict Rhode. On October
26, 1935, she married Joseph Zalai in South Bend. Together they
were married for 65 years prior to him passing away on February
2, 1999. Florentine was also preceded in death by her five
sisters and three brothers. Florentine retired on August 28,
1979, from Peterson's Printing Corp. where she had worked as a
bindery worker. She was also a member of Christ the King Catholic
Church. She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara E. Misenar
of South Bend; three grandchildren, Scott Misenar of South Bend,
Brian (Elizabeth) Misenar of South Bend and Cheryl (William) Miers
of South Bend; and four great-grandchildren, Victoria Miers,
Brooke Miers, Joseph Misenar and Lily Misenar.
Friends may visit with her family TODAY, Sept. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 US 33 North, South Bend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. In loving memory of Florentine, contributions may be made to the church.
