SOUTH BEND - Donald V. Young, 68, of West Sample Street, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in his home of natural causes. Mr. Young retired in 1989 as a security guard. He was born Feb. 22, 1927, in South Bend.

On June 20, 1960, in South Bend, he married Betty Jean Grant. She survives with a daughter, Dawn Karkiewicz of Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Larry and Robert, both of Bradenton; a stepdaughter, Rose Hall of South Bend; three brothers, Jack of Bremen, Bill of South Bend, and Paul of Palmetto, Fla.; a stepsister, Peg Siders of South Bend; and two stepbrothers, Donald Siders and Russell Siders, both of South Bend.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Goshen.

Graveside services and burial will be at a later date. Cremation will take place. There will be no visitation. Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
