Betty J. Young, 64, of West Sample Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, in her residence. Mrs. Young was born on Jan. 22, 1935, in South Bend, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

In 1964, in South Bend, she married Donald V. Young, who preceded her in death in 1995. Betty will be sadly missed by her only daughter, Rose M. Hall of South Bend and three loving grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Judy Ussher of Frankfurt, Ky., and Nona Yarborough of South Bend. Mrs. Young retired from Stone Container Corporation after many years of service.

There will be no visitation hours and the funeral services will be private, with family members only. Burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. The family of Betty J. Young request that all memorial contributions be made to the St. Joseph County Hospice, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The Hanley & Sons ''Southwest Chapel'' Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend, handled services and extend heartfelt sympathy to the family of Betty J. Young.
