SOUTH BEND - Russell E. York, 82, of
Healthwin Hospital and Nursing Home, died at 1:42 a.m. Thursday
in the nursing home. Mr. York retired from the former Weyerhauser
Co. as a machine operator. He was born Dec. 3, 1912, in Peru,
Ind., and lived in South Bend most of his life, coming from
Niles.
On Feb. 14, 1951, in South Bend, he married
Angeline ''Peggy'' Nemeth. She died July 30, 1982. He is
survived by a stepson, John L. Nemeth of South Bend; four
step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and two
brothers, Edsel of Niles and Lawrence of Bridgman. He was a
member of American Legion Post 50, Moose Lodge 58 and Eagles
Lodge 435, served as an usher at the University of Notre Dame for
40 years, and was a veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 S. Bendix Drive. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
