Robert L. Yeakley, 83, of Mayflower
Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, in
Hospice House, South Bend. He was born on Dec. 19, 1917, in
Logansport, Ind., to the late Ethel (Warne) and Charles Yeakley.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Robin Ray Yeakley, who
was lost in action in June 1972, during the Vietnam War. On June
14, 1944, in Akron, Ind., he married Pauline Bradway, who
survives. Mr. Yeakley is also survived by a daughter, Karen K. Brooks
of South Bend; two sons, Joe J. Yeakley and his wife, Linda
of Cedar, Minn., and Gary G. Yeakley and his wife, Yi Ping of
Ontario, Calif. Other survivors of Mr. Yeakley are six
grandchildren and six great- grandchildren; a sister, Anna L. Crain
and her husband, John of Metea, Ind.; and two brothers, Glen
Yeakley of Charlotte, N.C., and Wilbur Yeakley of Logansport,
Ind. Mr. Yeakley worked for 32 years as a highway truck driver
for Drewery's Limited, retiring in 1972, and was also the owner
and manager of Bob's Radio and T.V. Service and Repair for 50
years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, South
Bend; was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge #58; and was a
graduate of Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Services for Mr. Yeakley will be at 11 a.m.
on Thursday, March 8, in Westminster Presbyterian
Church, 1501 W. Cleveland Road, South Bend. Rev. Daniel Clark and Rev. Harry Collier will conduct the services. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, and one hour prior to services in the church. Entombment will take place at Riverview Mausoleum. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501 W. Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46628; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
