Sister M. Hildegarde Yeager CSC, 85, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Convent after a lengthy illness. She was born Florence Catherine Yeager on Sept. 10, 1894 in Lancaster, Pa. and entered the Holy Cross Order on Jan. 26, 1925. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1925 and began her work on Aug. 15, 1927. She was a teacher throughout her community life, teaching in elementary, secondary and collegiate levels. She also served as a principal at St. Cecila’s Academy in Washington DC, and as a history professor at Dumbarton College in Washington DC from 1943 to 1965. She retired to St. Mary’s Convent in 1968. Survivors include a niece, Sister M. Campton CSC at St. Mary’s College.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church on the campus, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, also on the campus. A wake will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church.
