Virginia M. Yazich

SOUTH BEND - Virginia May (Arney) Yazich, 88, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday morning, April 24, 2010, in her home in South Bend. Virginia was born on December 21, 1921, in Mishawaka, to Willard and Sue Arney. She grew up in South Bend and Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School. She went to work at Uniroyal (Ball Band) where she met her beloved husband, Frederick. After marriage she worked for many years at Bendix, before leaving to raise her son and assist her husband at the Yazich Insurance Agency, which he founded. Virginia was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church where she and Frederick contributed to the establishment of the church and hall on Keria Trail. She was also a member of the Women's Circle of Serbian Sisters, and often traveled with the choir. Virginia is remembered for her warm smile and gracious hospitality. She hosted many family gatherings at her home where friends, neighbors and family always felt welcome. She loved to laugh, especially with her "Freddy." As she grew ill, she told visitors that she was grateful for her long and happy life, and for the support and care of her dear son, Rick. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Nicholas Yazich; her infant son, Nickie Yazich; and by her brother, Harry Arney. She is survived by her son, Frederick A. "Rick" Yazich; her nieces, Millie (Yazich) Vasiliades, Mara (Kubat) Vertrees, Julie Kubat, Dawn (Kubat) Moffett, Mandy (Manczunski) Bujeker, and nephew, William Manczunski, and their families. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to services in the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church.
