Donald D. Wygant, 64, of Battle
Creek, Mich., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died on Saturday,
March 18, in Battle Creek Health Systems. Donald was born on Aug.
26, 1935, in South Bend, to Jennette (Foltz) and Donald D.
Wygant, Sr. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1955,
joined the Marine Reserves, and attended a community college in
Oregon in 1985. He moved to the Battle Creek area six and
one-half years ago. He had been a truck driver for the Precision
Heat Treating Company in Kalamazoo until Christmas of 1999.
Before that time he drove truck for Bill Knapps for three years.
He was a member of Ira Beck Masonic Lodge #503, attaining the
Master Mason degree and was a member of the Scottish Rite in
Grand Rapids where he attained 32nd degree. Donald enjoyed
fishing, gun and bow hunting, working on old cars, and was a
member of the Misfits Car Club. He also enjoyed downhill skiing,
racing, and was a member of the Battle Creek Ski Club.
On May 5, 1973, in South Bend, he married
the former Mary Lee Slasinski, who survives. He is also
survived by a daughter, Sara Ann Wygant, who attends Central
Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, March 25, in the Scottish Rite church building, 405 N.
Main Street, South Bend. A luncheon will follow. Flowers may be
taken to the Masonic Temple at 427 N. Main Street. Private
interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Avenue
N.E., Battle Creek, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
