Victor John Wukovits, 82, formerly of
Indiana Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away early on Monday
morning, Dec. 18, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation
Center, South Bend, Ind.
Vic was born on June 17, 1918, in South
Bend, to Frank and Mary Wukovits, who preceded him in death. He
was also preceded in death by a son, Robert; a sister, Marie;
brothers, Frank, William and Thomas; and by his beloved
"Bets," wife of 56 years. On March 6, 1943, in South
Bend, Vic married Betty Fitzgerald, and immediately
returned to serve his country aboard the USS Pensacola. Vic
retired from Mishawaka High School in 1980, where he was a
teacher-counselor-basketball and golf coach. Vic was a longtime
basketball and football official on the high school and college
level. The highlight of his career was officiating the 1973 Rose
Bowl. Vic is survived by two sons, Victor (Flor) Wukovits of San
Antonio, Texas, and Charles (Christine) Wukovits of Mishawaka;
three grandchildren, Caryn and Carol Wukovits, both of Mishawaka,
and Victor (Margaret) Wukovits of Lake Charles, La.; and by a
sister, Theresa Healey of South Bend.
As per Vic's request, there will be no visitation, with Thallemer- Goethals Funeral Home handling all arrangements. Memorial services will be held in conjunction with the Wukovits family reunion in July, with the date to be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vic's name to The Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032.
