SOUTH BEND - Gracie Wright, 86, of
1016 W. Oak St., died at 12:05 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's
Medical Center. Mrs. Wright was born Jan. 5, 1909, in Wewoka,
Okla., and lived in South Bend since 1909.
In 1925, in Sledge, Miss., she married Sam
Wright. He died in 1969. She is survived by five daughters, Mary
L. Cherry and Virginia Jackson, both of South Bend,
Lottie M. Grant of Denver, Juanita Jones of
Compton, Calif., and Geneva Thomas of Chicago; seven sons,
Sam Jr., Marcus and Kennard, all of Chicago, Reginald of South
Bend, Charles of Los Angeles, Earl of Sacramento, Calif., and
Michael of Denver; three stepdaughters, Lucille Abrams of
Chicago and Patty Isbell of Caruthersville, Mo., and
Marilyn Coleman of St. Louis; a stepson, Curtis Rogers of
Oklahoma City, Okla.; 47 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren;
six great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alberta Johnson
of Niles and Marie Kelly of St. Louis. A daughter,
Katherine Carter, a son, Kenneth, and a stepdaughter, Cleo
Rivers, preceded her in death. She was a member of Olivet
AME Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the
church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one
hour before services on Friday in the church. Alford's Mortuary
is in charge of arrangements.
