John Louis Wortinger.

John Louis Wortinger, aged 75, of 423 Howard street, died at 10 a.m. today in his residence after an illness of three years. He was born in Millersburg, Ind., May 16, 1874, and came here in 1920. In 1919 he married Mrs. Mary Hertel, in Goshen, Ind. She died Sept. 12, 1944. Surviving are three stepsons, Paul Hertel, of South Bend, Raymond Hertel of Seattle, Wash., and Norbert Hertel, of Portland, Ore.; six stepdaughters, Mrs. Elmer Danch, of South Bend; Sister John Michael, C.S.C., and Sister Claire Marie, C.S.C., both of St. Mary’s convent; Sister M. Ivan, C.S.C., superior at St. Angela’s academy, Morris, Ill.; Miss Hildegarde Hertel, Burbank, Calif.; Mrs. Paul Irish, of San Leandro, Calif.; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call in the Hickey Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Sunday and until funeral services tentatively set for Tuesday morning in St. Joseph Catholic church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery, Goshen.

Funeral services for John Louis Wortinger, 423 East Howard street, have been changed from Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Rev. Philip V. Beaghan, C.S.C, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery, Goshen, Ind. Friends may call in the Hickey funeral home after 1 p.m. Monday until the funeral. The Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

“J. L. Wortinger Rites Planned for Wednesday”

Pallbearers for John Louis Wortinger, who died Saturday morning in his residence at 423 Howard street, will be Chester Keeley, Stephen Horvath, Raymond Munick, Alphonse Dutrieux, Frank Gwynn and Richard Noyer.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Rev. Philip  Beaghan, C.S.C., pastor will be the celebrant and burial will be in the family plot at the Oak Ridge cemetery, Goshen.

Mr. Wortinger is also survived by two brothers, Albert of Logansport and Charles of Erie, Pa.

Prior to his illness three years ago, he had been employed at the University of Notre Dame for twelve years. Friends may call at the Hickey funeral home.
