BELTON, Texas - Leroy Charles Worsham Sr.,
81, of Belton, Texas, formerly of South Bend, died Friday
morning, Jan. 5, in his residence. Services will be at 10:00 A.M.
on Monday in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel, Belton, with
Rev. G.W. Armstrong officiating. Interment will be at a later
date. He was born to Charlie Monroe Worsham and Beulah Garrett
Worsham on Sept. 30, 1919, in Iuka, Miss. He was preceded in
death by his parents; a brother, James Henry Worsham; and by
three sisters, Ruth Worsham, Myrtle Coleman and Kathleen
Worsham. The family will have visitation from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M.
today in the Heartfield Funeral Home, Belton, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1938
to 1958, during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his
service in the Marines he received the Presidential Unit Citation
awarded to the 1st Marine Division for service in Korea, the Good
Conduct Medal with one bronze star, American Defense Services
Medal with Base Clasp, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic - Pacific
Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation
Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service
Medal with three bronze stars, Republic of Korea Presidential
Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea
War Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and Pistol Expert
Badge.
After leaving the Marines he moved to South
Bend, Ind., where he was employed by the City of South Bend. He
moved to Belton, Texas, 20 years ago. He was a Baptist. He
married Mary Gurganus on Aug. 11, 1946, in Dillon, S.C. He
is survived by his wife, Mary Worsham of Belton; three sons,
Larry Monroe Worsham of Belton, Leroy C. Worsham Jr. of South
Bend and Eric Lee Worsham of Riverview, Fla.; a daughter, Roy Ann
Snow of Killeen, Texas; two brothers, John H. Worsham and William
Worsham, both of Mishawaka, Ind.; three sisters, Nora Clark
of Florence, Ala., Mary Elizabeth Portalese of Mishawaka
and Rachel Sanders of Cleveland, Miss.; and by 10
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
