SOUTH BEND - Virgil Dillon Woodworth, 73, of
3425 Sorin St., died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday in his home. Mr.
Woodworth retired in 1981 from Teamsters Local 364. He was born
March 9, 1922, in Danville, Ill., and lived in South Bend most of
his life. In 1946, in South Bend, he married Edna Chabera. She
died in 1990. In 1991, in South Bend, he married Adelaide
Bogunia. She survives with a daughter, Charlene Neville of
Fernley, Nev.; two sons, Tony of Decatur, Ind., and James of
South Bend; three stepdaughters, Beth Robinett of Mishawaka and
Kathleen Wilkins and Suzanne Smith, both of South Bend; four
stepsons, Robert Canfield and Brian Canfield, both of Mishawaka,
David Canfield of South Bend and Ted Canfield of Indianapolis;
six grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Mary Schlotterbach and Dorothy Parks, both of
Elkhart and Naomi ''Ruth'' Van Waeyenberghe of Mishawaka; and
three brothers, David of LaPaz, Damon of Mishawaka and John of
Roseville, Calif. He was a 3rd Degree member of Knights of
Columbus Council 5521, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6,
Teamsters Union Local 364, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 435
and Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, and was past president of
St. Joseph Valley Holiday Ramblers Club Chapter 87 and Burns
Harbor Ramblers Chapter 135. He was a veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St.
Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sumption
Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, where a parish
rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made
to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
