SOUTH BEND - Gwendolyn H. Wood, 89, passed away peacefully on May 1st in her home. She was born on January 28, 1919, to the late Carroll and Evelyn (Dungy) Johnson, and was a lifelong area resident. In 1934 she married Carlos Dayton Wood, who preceded her in death. After the death of her husband she devoted herself to her children. She had attended Central High School and returned to school to become an L.P.N. She retired from Saint Joseph Medical Center in 1984. Surviving are two children, Beverly (John) and Carlos (Jacqueline) Wood. A son, Damon (Anita), preceded her in death. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Angelique (Greg) Laws, James Shell, Damita (Larry) Willis, Drew Shell, Loren (Clair) Shell, Viki Byron, Raymonde' (Wesley) Douglas, Lisa (Paul) Ybarra, Michael Howard, Norman Shell, Cornell Wood, Carla (Tony) Williamson, Carlos III (Michelle) Wood, Nancy Wood, Barbara McDonald, Tammy (Tommy) Brown, Damon II (Glorianna) Wood, Sean and Kelly Wood. Christopher Wood and Jeffery McDonald preceded her in death. Also surviving are 42 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and two beloved friends, Vera Lane and Erma Greer.
