MISHAWAKA - Shirley Jean Womer, 90, of Mishawaka, IN, formerly of
South Bend, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2009, in
Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka. Mrs. Womer was born
April 24, 1919, in Chicago, IL, to the late Howard and Edith
(Wright) Hohmann, and had lived in South Bend since 1940. On
August 31, 1940, in Chicago, she married Clyde Womer, who
preceded her in death February 24, 2006. She was also preceded in
death by her siblings, Nancy Saff and William Hohmann. She is
survived by a daughter, Pamela J. Burton (Danny) of Connorsville,
IN; three sons, William H. Womer of Hastings, MI, Peter C. Womer
(Jean) of South Bend and David W. Womer (Connie) of Noblesville,
IN; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one
great-grandchild and 11 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister,
Mary Schweitzer of Lafayette, CO. Mrs. Womer was an active member
of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 50 years, the Hearing and
Speech Center Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks and Clay Church. She
also attended North Central College in Naperville, IL. Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16th, in
Portage Prairie United Methodist Church, with Rev. O'Ryan Pickard
and Rev. Herbert Buwalda of Clay Church officiating. Burial will
follow at Portage Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until
8 p.m. Tuesday, December 15th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral
Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Memorial contributions may be
made to Clay Church, 17646 Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN, 46635.
