Jane P. Wolter
May 2, 1917 -- Aug. 30, 2004
Jane P. Wolter, 87, a lifelong Mishawaka,
Ind., resident, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 30. Jane was a
resident of the Arborwood Living Center.
She was born May 2, 1917, in Mishawaka, a
daughter of August and Rose (Lamirand) Weber. Jane was a 1935
graduate of Mishawaka High School. On Sept. 19, 1936, in St.
Joseph Catholic Church, she married Joseph Wolter Sr. Jane's
employment included Wolter Photo Service, Ball Band and Dodge
Manufacturing. Her true love was being a homemaker. She
particularly enjoyed working in the kitchen and is remembered for
her baking, desserts being a specialty. Jane shared her baking
with others and was known for taking food to area grieving
families. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, their
Harvest House Senior Group and at one time belonged to the Rosary
Society. Jane was a volunteer with literacy training and hosted
participants in Special Olympics at Notre Dame. The Wolters did
extensive traveling both in the United States and abroad. Germany
was a favorite destination, and Jane even learned German before
vacationing there. Jane also was fond of teddy bears and enjoyed
the snow. The holidays were a highlight in her life, and in her
later years she was particularly focused on her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Jane's surviving family includes her three
children, Joseph A. Wolter (Christine) of South Bend, Ind., W.
Dennis Wolter (Mary) of Beverly Shores and Carol Ernst (J.
Anthony) of Granger, Ind.; a sister, Katherine Benjamin of
Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren, Joseph M. Wolter (Kelly), William R.
Wolter (Yvette), Thomas C. Wolter, Lisa M. Wolter Brezine (Adam),
William D. Wolter Jr., Meg J. Wolter, Michael J. Ernst (Cathy),
Patricia J. McFadden (John), John P. Ernst (Carrie), and James W.
Ernst (Laura); and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband of 63 years, Joe; a brother, August Weber; sisters,
Marguerite Scheibelhut and Helen Wolfe; an infant brother, Allen
Weber; and infant sisters, Marie and Henrietta Weber.
Friends may spend time with Jane's family on
Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals
& Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third St., Mishawaka, where the
Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic
Church, 225 S. Mill St., Mishawaka, with Rev. Anthony Puchenski
officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
Osceola, Ind.
