SOUTH BEND - Virginia "Ginny" (Lewis) Witt, 82,
passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, in the care of Mitchell's
Country Care of South Bend. Survivors include a daughter, Linda
Witt (Kerry) Leslie of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Robert
(Stephanie) Witt of Granger; and five grandchildren, Melissa
(Steve) Davis of Coral Springs, FL, Matthew Witt of
Chicago, Andrew Witt of South Bend, Allison (John) Howard
of South Bend and Evan Witt of Elkhart. Also surviving are
great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ashley Davis of Coral
Springs, FL. Virginia was born July 28, 1925, to Leonard and
Fanny Lewis.
She was married on June 23, 1945, to Earl R.
Witt, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death
by her brother, Dr. Leonard D. Lewis of Sarasota, FL. Virginia
was a longtime resident of the South Bend community, a 1943
graduate of South Bend Central High School, and a past member of
Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also was employed by the
University of Notre Dame "for many wonderful years."
Virginia spent from 1978 to 2005 as a resident of Fort
Lauderdale, FL. As a mother, grandmother and friend,
"Ginny" will be lovingly remembered and missed forever
for her keen, dry wit, her "no-nonsense" demeanor, and
her sincere, loving nature.
Services will be held at noon on Saturday,
Dec. 8, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, located at
17033 Cleveland Road at Hickory, where friends may call one hour
prior to services.
