SOUTH BEND - Harry D. Witt, 65, was born on December 10,
1943, in Garten, West Virginia, to the late Edith Jones
and Richard Witt. He later moved to Fayetteville, West Virginia,
where he was raised by his grandmother, the late Nancy Jones. His
sisters, Cordelia Witt-Morgan and Janie Witt, preceded him
in death. While a youth in West Virginia, he met the love of his
life, Doretta Smallwood. In 1968 they relocated to South
Bend, Indiana, where she preceded him in death. During their 36
years together they became the proud parents of 11 children, two
of whom preceded him in death, Dwayne and Gary Smallwood.
In 1999 he married Charlotte Henderson; they remained
married until his untimely passing. Harry D. Whitt, 65, a
longtime resident of South Bend, Indiana, suddenly departed this
life on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Harry worked for Curtis
Products for 10 years. He was known as an excellent provider,
loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and
friend. His style, entrepreneurial spirit, outgoing personality
and, above all, warm smile, will be greatly missed by all those
who knew and loved him. Harry leaves to cherish his memory his
wife, Charlotte Henderson; his children, Howard, Doretta, Rita,
Douglas and Eddie Smallwood, Nancy Witt, Margaret Witt-Owens
(Louis) and Krystal Plump (Isaac), all of South Bend, IN.
He also leaves 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren,
all of South Bend, Indiana; a special friend, Theresa Washington
of South Bend, Indiana; as well as a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends to share his memory.
Funeral services for Mr. Harry D. Witt will be held on Friday, January 2, 2008, in Faith Apostolic Ministries at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the time of services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
