SOUTH BEND - Roman S. Winnicki, 90, passed away at 3 p.m.
on Friday, Feb. 1, in Memorial Hospital. Roman was born on March
20, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Walter and Blanche (Trok)
Winnicki. He was also preceded in death by two infant sons,
Thomas and Michael; brothers, Walter Jr. and Lucian; and sisters,
Nellie, Clementine and Wanda.
On September 29, 1945, Roman married
Virginia Switalski. Virginia survives along with a son,
Terry (Carole) Winnicki of New Carlisle; and a granddaughter,
Stephanie Winnicki. Roman had worked at Bendix Corp. as a machine
operator, retiring in 1977 after 40 years. He served with the
U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Stanislaus
Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church and the 35th Division
Association. Fishing, feeding the birds and squirrels brought him
much enjoyment. He also loved his dog, Susie.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday,
Feb. 4, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South
Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:30. Services will be at
10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Burial will
follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the
donor's choice.
