SOUTH BEND - Esther J. Winkler, 89,
formerly of Prairie Avenue, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, in
the Aurora Rehabilitation Center, Aurora, Illinois. Esther was
born on January 28, 1918, in Ludington, Michigan, to Leo and
Josephine (Rzyski) Sciba. She retired from A.M.
General, was a member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption
Church, its Altar & Rosary Society, the Senior Citizen Club
of St. Casimir Church, Daughters of Isabella, and was a charter
member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the D.F.V.
German Club.
On April 24, 1937, in South Bend, as Esther
Sciba, she married Anthony F. Winkler, who died on January 10,
1971. Surviving are a son, Anthony J. (Jo Anne) Winkler of
Aurora, IL; three grandchildren, Jeffery Winkler of Carol Stream,
IL, Kirk S. Winkler of Elmhurst, IL, and Laura A. Stark of
Sawyer, MI; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Chester
Sciba of South Bend.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00
a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S.
Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family
and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home,
where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Parish Communities of St. Mary
of the Assumption / St. Jude.
