SOUTH BEND - Sister Katherine Wingfield (Sister M.
Carola), CSC, 99, was born in New York, NY, to the late Opley
Wingfield and Julia Brennan Wingfield. She had two sisters,
Elizabeth, who became Sister Mary Veronica, Poor Clare,
and Gladys, who became Sister Gladys, PBVM. Both sisters
are deceased. Sister is survived by a cousin, Miriam (Ronald) Brow,
DE, and Rev. Albert B. Winfield, IN. She will be missed by her
many cousins, both in the U.S. and Ireland, and by her many
friends.
Before entering the Sisters of the Holy
Cross, Sister Katherine worked as a stenographer and typist in
New York City. Sister was a graduate of Dunbarton College in
Washington, DC. She entered the Congregation in 1932 and taught
for over 50 years in elementary schools in Washington, DC, New
York, Maryland, Virginia and Texas. Sister also was librarian,
home visitor and, on retirement to Saint Angela's, Kensington,
MD, she kept busy with volunteer services to the community.
Sister came to Saint Mary's Convent in 1999 and was active in the
Ministry of Prayer until her death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint
Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Reception of the Body and wake
services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Church
of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral
services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Church
of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Kaniewski
Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
