SOUTH BEND - Robert D. Wilson, 88, of South Bend, passed away on
Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at 2:54 a.m. in Memorial Hospital,
South Bend, after a brief illness. Mr. Wilson was born July 22,
1921, to the late Arthur H. Wilson and Anna K. Haag in South
Bend, IN. On April 5, 1941 in South Bend, Robert married the
former Eleanor L. Ives, who survives. He was a loving husband and
hardworking father. Robert leaves behind three sons, Ronald
(Becky) Wilson of South Bend, Terry Wilson of Mishawaka and Roger
(Kathy) Wilson of South Bend. He also leaves behind a
brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law, Bill (Marguerite) Ives of
South Bend. Mr. Wilson was an amazing grandfather to eight
grandchildren, Robert II Wilson, James Wilson, Ronald II Wilson,
Amy (Vince) Hanning, Tammy Wilson, Michael (Tracey) Wilson,
Joshua (Angie) Wilson, and Vickie Landrum. Thirteen
great-grandchildren, Corey Landrum, Amber Landrum, Brooke Wilson,
Zoe Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Jenna Wilson, Morgan Wilson, Bethany
Wilson, Nicholas Wilson, Marissa Wilson, Paige Wilson, Luke
Wilson and Cade Wilson. And one great-great-grandchild, Caeydon
Landrum. Bob was preceded in death by all six of his brothers,
Howard, Lawrence, Ralph, Cliff, Leonard and Richard Wilson. He
worked for Tucker Freight Lines as a truck driver before retiring
in 1979. He was also a veteran of the US Army Air Force serving
during WWII. Robert was a member of Mishawaka High School Alumni
Association, Teamsters 364, volunteered at the First United
Methodist Soup Kitchen, and was a community volunteer in South
Bend and St. Joseph County. Visitation will take place at Hanley
& Sons "South West Chapel" Funeral Home located at
West Ireland Rd./SR #23, South Bend from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday,
December 27, 2009. Funeral services will take place in the
funeral home on Monday, December 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. Burial to
follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Please make all memorial
contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262
Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The HANLEY and Sons
"Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements
and services and extend its deepest sympathy and heartfelt
prayers to the Wilson Family.
