SOUTH BEND - Sister Miriam Andre (Elizabeth Margaret
Williams), CSC, 90, died on Monday April 23. Sister Miriam
Andre was born in Alexandria, VA, to the late Edward V. Williams
and Elizabeth Toomey Williams. She had two sisters, Kitty
and Mary Louise Williams, both of whom are deceased. Sister is
survived by a niece, Hope Warren; and by cousins, Sister
Mary Corebett and Betty Miller. Sister's many friends
will miss her.
Before entering the Sisters of the Holy
Cross, Sister Miriam Andre worked as a research clerk for the
International Association of Machinists. Sister also was a
graduate of Dunbarton College in Washington, DC. She entered the
Congregation in 1950 and taught business courses in senior high
schools in Maryland, New York, Texas and Washington, DC. Sister
was principal at St. Patrick's Academy, Washington, DC. She then
was an accountant for three years until she was appointed
religious superior in the Eastern Region and held that office for
10 years.
In 1981 Sister returned to teaching and was
admissions director and guidance counselor at the Academy of the
Holy Cross, Kensington, MD, until 2005 when she came to Saint
Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, IN. Sister was active in the ministry
of prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to
the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint
Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
Reception of the body and wake services will
be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in the Church of Our Lady of
Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral services will be at
10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Church of Our Lady of
Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Kaniewski Funeral Home is
handling arrangements.
