Larry Doby Williams

Sept. 30, 1950 - March 28, 2001

Mr. Larry Doby Williams, 50, was born in Byhalia, Miss., on Sept. 30, 1950, to the union of Robert Williams and Pearl Williams. The Lord called one of his Precious Flowers; Larry went home on Wednesday, March 28, 2001. At a very early age, the family relocated to South Bend, Ind. Larry attended South Bend Community Schools, and later on obtained his GED in Texas. He attended Mott College in Flint, Mich. Larry entered the service at Fort Campbell, Ky., and served in the Vietnam War, where he received a Service Medal with two bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, Outstanding Marksman (Rifle), and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

 

Larry is survived by his mother, Mrs. Pearl Williams; four sisters, Deloris Williams, Alonza Williams, and Suzanne Thomas of South Bend, and Octavia (Rev. Robert) Murden of Memphis, Tenn.; five brothers, Robert (Diana) Williams, Jackie Williams and Jerry Thomas of South Bend, Carl (Samantha) Buchanon of Jeffersonville, Ind., Rev. George (Betty) Richmond, Curtis (Mamie) Richmond of Memphis; one grandchild, Jada A. Batson of Flint, Mich.; and by his fiancé, Patricia Hardin. He was preceded in death by his son Ra'mon Jerrod Batson, and by his father, Robert Williams.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 2, in the Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation two hours before services. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with services.
