SOUTH BEND - Don A. Wilkinson, 81, of Alexandria, LA, died
Wednesday in Huey Medical Center, Pineville, LA. He was born in
South Bend on June 1, 1927. His birth mother was Mable Seagrove,
who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his
parents, Osborn P. and Ruth A. (Reed) Wilkinson, and his
first wife, Imogen Hales Wilkinson.
On June 25, 1993, he was married in Logan,
UT, to Flora Grant, who survives. He was a retired colonel
from the United States Army and he then worked as a federal civil
servant with the Department of Energy before retiring. He was a
member of the LaPorte Presbyterian Church and Disabled American
Veterans. He served in Germany during World War II. He also
served two tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Combat
Infantry Badge with star and the Legion of Merit twice. He was a
Westville High School graduate in 1945. Survivors include his
wife, Flora (Grant) Wilkinson; daughters, Dawn Ann W. (Gordon
Lee) Spittle of Valencia, CA, Linda W. (Robert) Eckenrode
of Montoursville, PA, and Karen L. Wilkinson of Woodbridge, VA;
sons, James N. (Kimberley S.) Wilkinson of Bedford, TX, and
Robert O. (Linda M.) Wilkinson of Tulsa, OK; a sister, Virginia
(Harold) Nelson of Sun City, AZ; 10 grandchildren, Seth,
Jeremy, James, Wesley, Haily, Jessie, Nicholas, Kirk, Jennifer
and Stephanie; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Grayson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June
19, in Cutler Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8
p.m. Wednesday, and one hour before services. Interment will be
at Door Village Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may
be made to Operation USO Care Package at, select "send a
gift."
