Joseph A. Wilczewski, 92, of the
Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, formerly of Buckskin Lane,
South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6:44 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, in
Healthwin. He was born in Bayonne, N.J., on Feb. 1, 1909, to the
late Joseph and Frances (Gierszewski) Wilczewski. He moved
to the South Bend area in 1919.
On June 20, 1968, he married Dorothy Radecki
Wezenke, who preceded him in death on June 11, 1994. Mr.
Wilczewski was also preceded in death by two sisters, Genny Lockwood
and Helen Wilczewski; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilczewski;
three brothers, Frank Wilczewski, and by two other brothers who
died as small children in New Jersey, one who may have been named
John; two brothers-in-law, Edward Kasprzak and R.E.
Lockwood; and by a nephew, Michael Kasprzak. He is survived by a
sister, Mary Kasprzak of Mishawaka, Ind.; three nephews, Dean
(Darlene) Lockwood of Galien, Mich., Gerald (Josephine) Kasprzak
of Goshen, Ind., and Kenneth (Beverly) Kasprzak of Green Bay,
Wis.; four great-nieces, Denise (Al) Westendorp of Niles,
Mich., Beth (Jeff) Froelich of Saukville, Wis., Melanie
Kasprzak of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jill (Tommy) Taylor of
Richmond, Ky.; a great-nephew, Chad Kasprzak of Raleigh, N.C.;
and by six great-great-nieces and nephews, Kurt, Emily, Mark and
Genny Westendorp, and Matthew and Nicholas Froelich.
Joseph was employed as a cabinet maker for
the Singer Company for 18 years, and then as a distribution clerk
for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years before his retirement in
November 1974. Mr. Wilczewski was a member of the Eagles Lodge
#321, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the
American Association of Retired Persons and the Leighton Center.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today,
Aug. 9, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive,
South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10,
in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, South Bend, with burial to
follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made
to the charity of donor's choice.
