Zella M. Wier

SOUTH BEND - Zella M. Wier, 51, of Michigan City Health Care Center, died at 5 a.m. Sunday in the health care center. Miss Wier was born Nov. 23, 1943, in South Bend. She is survived by a sister, Delores Jann of Grand Rapids; a brother, Forrest of Jasonville, Ind.; and five nieces and one nephew. She was a graduate of Indiana School for the Deaf and Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, Mass. She learned to use a unique communication skill called Tadoma, which fewer than 20 individuals in the United States were able to master.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call two hours before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Road, Rochester, MN 48307.
