Armin T. "Dutch" Wierschem,
94, of Garden Lane, South Bend, Ind., died Tuesday, Aug. 27, in
the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born June 6,
1908, to the late Joseph and Louise (Loewe) Wierschem.
Armin was also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Kohler,
Anne Hennrich, Helen Eschmann and Edna Wierschem;
and by brothers, Cornelius and Herbert Wierschem. On April 7,
1942, in Valmeyer, Ill., he married Hilda Palow, who
survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Mary (Gene) Yarbrough
of South Bend; a son, Joseph Wierschem of Minnesota; two
grandchildren, Michael (Janet) Yarbrough and Tami (Aric) Bryant
of South Bend; three great-grandchildren, Aaron and Matthew
Yarbrough, and Cameron Bryant; and by a brother, William
Wierschem of St. Louis, Mo.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic
Church for 60 years, the Eagles and ZB Falcons. Armin retired
from Kaiser/AM General, and worked at Studebaker as a master
mechanic for 23 years. He also owned his own business, Wierschem
Electric. Armin served in the Army during World War II as a
medical equipment maintenance tech. He received a meritorious
award for improvising surgical instruments when none were
available in the United Kingdom. He liked to fish on Lake
Michigan in the boat he had made. Armin was an avid gardener.
Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m.
today, Aug. 30, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower
Road, with a Rosary held at 7:30 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m.
on Saturday, Aug. 31, in Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial
to follow at Highland Cemetery.
