SOUTH BEND - Services for Helen Rebecca
Whitney, 79, of 501 S. Scott St., who died about 4 p.m.
Sunday in her home after an illness, will be at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday in First A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in St.
Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call one hour
before services in the church. Alford's Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Whitney retired from South Bend
Community School Corp. She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Grand
Rapids, and lived in South Bend since 1965.
In 1937, in Detroit, she married Houston E.
Whitney Sr. He died in 1986. She is survived by five daughters,
Mary Ann McRae, Ellen Louetta Ransey, and Gloria Jean Roseberry,
all of Ann Arbor, Karen Rossum of Dallas, and Patricia Taylor
of Kalamazoo; three sons, Houston Jr. of Ann Arbor, Robert of
Ypsilanti, Mich., and John of Middleville, Mich.; 25
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Mary Miller
of Detroit, Renelda Robinson, Natalie Stein, Helen Paul
and Florence Nickerson, all of South Bend. She was a
member of the church.
