Robert Dwain Whitmer

Robert Dwain Whitmer, 70, of Fort
Myers, Fla., passed away after a lengthy illness at 5:45 p.m. on
Sunday, Oct. 31, in Lee Memorial Hospital. He was born in North
Liberty, Ind., on March 5, 1929, to Richard and Helen (Naragon)
Whitmer. He was sales manager for the F.W. Means Company for 20
years and, in 1968, founded the Whitmer Sales and Service Company
in South Bend. He married Carol Bierly on June 23, 1956,
in North Liberty. She survives. He is also survived by two sons,
Jeff (Christina) Whitmer of North Liberty and Tom (Karen) Whitmer
of Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jeff, II, Justen and Jenna
Whitmer of North Liberty; and by two sisters, Josephine (Myron) Davis
and Barbara (Darwin) Davis, both of North Liberty. Mr. Whitmer
served in the armed forces in Korea from 1951-52. He served as a
trustee of Liberty Township for eight years and was a school
board member of the John Glenn School Corporation. He was a
member of the Whiskey Creek Country Club, the V.F.W., and the
American Legion, all in Fort Myers. He was a member of the United
Methodist Church in North Liberty. He was a very loving husband,
father and grandfather, and was much beloved by his family.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Elkins-Nusbaum Funeral Home, Walkerton, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, at the United Methodist Church, North Liberty, with Rev. Fred Stayton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton.
