NORTH LIBERTY -- Katherine S. Whitmer, 91, of Liberty Trail, North Liberty, Ind., passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, in Fountain View Place Nursing Center, Mishawaka, Ind. Mrs. Whitmer was born on Oct. 10, 1912, in North Manchester, Ind., and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.
On Aug. 19, 1932, in Bluffton, Ind., as Katherine S. Shock, she married Paul Whitmer, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1994. Katherine is survived by three loving sons, Paul D. (Jackie) Whitmer of North Liberty, Philip A. (Gayle) Whitmer of Elkhart, Ind., and David S. (Estelle) Whitmer of Sebring, Fla.; and by 10 loving grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom she loved and cherished. Mrs. Whitmer was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who always placed her family above all. She was a homemaker and a devoted Christian lady.
Mrs. Whitmer was a member of North Liberty Church of the Brethren, and loved sewing. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, church family and all who knew her. She was a charter member of the Greene Township Homemakers Club.
Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 15, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the funeral home. The Rev. David Pinkham will officiate. Burial will take place at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the North Liberty Church of the Brethren. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Whitmer family.
